2024 Uplift Guide for 2002 Pay Scales

This calculator is for resident doctors employed on the 2016 Terms & Conditions. If you are instead employed on the 2002 Terms & Conditions, we also provide a step-by-step guide to calculating your 2024 uplift and back payment.

In November, resident doctors in England will receive a pay uplift, dated back to April 2023. Doctors employed according to the 2016 Terms & Conditions can use the calculator below to determine the back payment you will receive from each job you have worked since April 2023, and to calculate your new salary for your current placement.

Pay for 2023 - 2024

In September 2023, resident doctors received an initial pay uplift of 6% + £1,250. For the purposes of this guide, we will refer to this uplift as the September 2023 uplift. For any jobs worked between April 2023 and August 2023, you will have already received a back payment for this uplift.

In addition, there will now be a further uplift of between 3.71% and 5.05%, depending on grade, retroactively applied from April 2023. This will come into effect November 2024, and back payments will be made for any jobs worked between April 2023 and March 2024.

Pay for 2024 - 2025

Resident doctors will also receive a further uplift of 6% + £1,000, retroactively applied since April 2024. This will come into effect November 2024, and back payments will be made for any jobs worked between April 2024 and October 2024.

Uplift Calculator

This calculator will enable you to determine what this actually means for you, based on all jobs you have worked since April 2023, and accounting for the September 2023 pay uplift already received.

  1. Input your annual salary (not monthly salary) for each pay element below, for each job worked from April 2023. LTFT allowance and London Weighting are not uplifted so have not been included in this calculator.
  2. See the value of your lump sum payment, as well as the increase in your current salary from November 2024.

Important Caveats

In order to simplify use of this calculator, we have made a few base assumptions. Whilst in most cases this shouldn't change individual uplift values by more than a few pounds, it is important to note that these values will not always be exact. The salary analysis calculator on our main site will provide your exact uplift values. You can subscribe here.

This calculator will determine your uplift based on the pay details you provide, but will not determine whether you have been paid correctly. Pay errors, especially underpayments, are extremely common. To check your pay for accuracy (for every job since 2016), please consider signing up to Doctors Paycheck.
