What will my backdated pay uplift take-home pay be?

Determining the exact value of your take-home pay requires a huge amount of personal information, including your tax code, pension contributions, student loan, and various other personal details. This is because your lump sum will be subject to all the standard taxes and deductions of your usual monthly income.

However, most doctors will receive a lump sum of roughly 60-80% of the value of their gross pay uplift value.

When will I receive my back-dated lump sum?

November 2024.

Does this calculator work for Less Than Full Time doctors?

Yes. Please input your actual annual salary values according to your Less Than Full Time work schedule. The Less Than Full Time allowance will not be uplifted, so has not been included in this calculator.

I was paid according to the 2002 contract - can I use this Uplift Calculator to work out my backpay?

Maybe. Our Uplift Calculator is programmed specifically for resident doctors paid according to the 2016 pay scales. We have created an Uplift Guide for doctors paid according to the 2002 pay scales for any jobs since April 2023. However, you can use this calculator to provide a rough estimate in some situations. It can only be used for 2002 pay scale values for salaries which are inclusive of the September 2023 uplift. It will also be far less accurate than using our manual calculation guide.

If you still wish to use it, follow these steps:

1. Ensure your salary is inclusive of the September 2023 uplift by using steps A, B & C (as required) in the Uplift Guide (2002).
2. Enter the start and finish dates of the job (for any jobs starting before 1st April 2023 select 01 Apr 2023).
3. Answer "YES" to the question "Do these pay values account for the April 2023 6% + £1,250 pay uplift?" (if your salary is exclusive of this uplift, you cannot just answer NO as this will give you incorrect uplift values).
4. Select the grade "CT3 & ST3-5" (select this regardless of the grade you actually worked as it will give you the closest uplift factor).
5. Enter your Total Annual Salary into the "Basic Pay" entry. Include your basic pay and any banding pay in this value. Do not include any London Weighting.
6. Click "Calculate Uplift".

I have been on maternity/paternity leave, how does this uplift impact my maternity/paternity pay?

If you have received any Occupational Maternity Pay (OMP) or pay for accrued annual leave since April 2023, the value of this will need to be recalculated based on your new uplifted salary. You can use this calculator to determine your new uplifted salary for any applicable job, then you will need to contact your Trust's HR department to ask them to recalculate your maternity/paternity pay accordingly. The value for Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) will not change due to this uplift.
