Uplift Calculator
This calculator will enable you to determine what this uplift actually means for you.
- Input your annual salary (not monthly salary) for each pay element below for your current placement, and any other placement worked since 01 Apr 2026. - See the increase in your current salary, and the value of your backpay due.
Important Caveats
In order to simplify use of this calculator, we have made a few base assumptions. Whilst in most cases this shouldn't change individual uplift values by more than a few pounds, it is important to note that these values will not always be exact. The salary analysis calculator on our main site will provide your exact uplift values (using Pay and Conditions Circular (M&D) 1/2026). You can subscribe here.
This calculator will determine your uplift based on the pay details you provide, but will not determine whether you have been paid correctly. Pay errors, especially underpayments, are extremely common. To check your pay for accuracy (for every job since 2016), please consider signing up to Doctors Paycheck.
Our salaries are rife with miscalculations. This was even highlighted recently by the NHS Chief Executive herself.
If you would like to check all of your pay since 2016, and are interested in learning more about how we are paid, consider signing up to Doctors Paycheck.
Frequently Asked Questions
What will my backdated pay uplift take-home pay be?
Determining the exact value of your take-home pay requires a huge amount of personal information, including your tax code, pension contributions, student loan, and various other personal details. This is because your lump sum will be subject to all the standard taxes and deductions of your usual monthly income.
However, most doctors will receive a lump sum corresponding to three months of gross salary uplift, for April, May and June 2026.
When will I receive my back-dated lump sum?
The pay uplift is due to be paid in June 2026. You will receive a lump sum back payment for any work from 01 Apr 2026 to 30 Jun 2026, and your salary from 01 Apr 2026 onwards will be based on the new uplifted values.
Does this calculator work for Less Than Full Time doctors?
Yes. Please input your actual annual salary values according to your Less Than Full Time work schedule.
I was paid according to the 2002 contract - can I use this Uplift Calculator to work out my backpay?
The pay structure for salaries based on the 2002 contract is more straightforward that those on the 2016 contract, so we haven't created a specific calculator for this. For resident doctors in training paid according to the 2002 contract, you can find out how much your new salary and back payment will be by entering your basic pay in the Basic Pay box, and your banding pay in the Additional Pay box. Specialty and Specialist (SAS) doctors have a separate pay uplift to doctors in training so this calculator is not applicable to your salary.
I have been on maternity/paternity leave, how does this uplift impact my maternity/paternity pay?
If you have received any Occupational Maternity Pay (OMP) or pay for accrued annual leave between 01 Apr 2026 and 30 Jun 2026, the value of this will need to be recalculated based on your new uplifted salary. You can use our Maternity Pay Calculator to work out your exact maternity or paternity pay values, including the effect of this uplift. The value for Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) will not change due to this uplift.
